· LLDPE (Butene)
· LLDPE (Butene)

Weekly Analysis No. 14 (September 2026)
Record 19.2 Trillion Toman Trade Value; Boom or a Reflection of Rising Prices?
🧭 Overview: Record-Breaking Amid Uncertainty
Iran's petrochemical products market recorded a historic record in trade value in the third week of September: 19.2 trillion toman traded in a single week. But behind this large figure, there is no sign of a carefree boom. Simultaneously with this record, the free-market dollar jumped by 16,000 toman to the 235,000–237,000 toman range, oil prices crossed the $100 mark, and almost all petrochemical products became more expensive in the free market.
The main question this week is not "how much was traded?" but rather to what extent this record reflects genuine prosperity versus a reflection of rising prices.
🇮🇷 Iran Market; Dollar in the 235,000–237,000 Toman Range, Oil Above $100
Free-Market Dollar; 7.2% Surge
The free-market dollar, which had risen by 10,000 toman the previous week, rose by another 16,000 toman in the third week of September, crossing the 235,000-toman mark with a 7.2% increase. At the time of writing this report, the dollar rate was fluctuating in the 235,000–237,000 toman range. The rate started at 221,000 toman on Friday, September 4, and after fluctuating between 223,000 and 228,000 toman, reached 237,000 toman on Wednesday, September 9.
Nima Dollar; Fifty-Seventh Consecutive Day of Gains
The Nima dollar also continued its upward trend. Today marks the fifty-seventh consecutive day of gains for the Nima dollar. Iran's Currency and Gold Exchange Center announced the Nima dollar selling rate at 161,951 toman. The weekly average reached 161,226 toman, a 2,152-toman (approximately 1.3% ) increase compared to Sunday's base rates.
Brent Crude; Crossing the $100 Mark
In the global oil market, the trend was also upward. Oil prices rose from $95.85 on Saturday, September 5, to $97 on Monday, $97.29 on Tuesday, and finally to **$101.06** on Wednesday. Oil rose by **$5.21, equivalent to 5.4%** during the week, once again crossing the $100 mark.
Commodity Exchange; Record 19.2 Trillion Toman
Total supply of petrochemical products in the third week of September reached 76,000 tonnes. Base prices were announced on Sunday, September 6, and all polymer groups, including polyethylenes, saw growth of 2% to 14% .
Polyethylene trades were mostly bullish: heavy blow molding grades rose between 3,400 and 18,000 toman, heavy injection grades between 1,500 and 8,000 toman, linear light grades between 3 and 9,000 toman, heavy film grades between 1,700 and 9,000 toman, and light film grades between 5,600 and 11,500 toman. Heavy extrusion grades rose between 13,000 and 21,000 toman, and bottle-grade PET rose between 7,000 and 11,000 toman.
Trade value exceeded 19.2 trillion toman, setting a new historical record. However, demand volume declined, indicating buyer caution.
🌍 Global Market; Price Increases in Asia, New Challenges in Europe
Based on global price data as of September 11, 2026, petrochemical product changes across regions are as follows:
East Asia (bullish):
· ABS rose by $20 (1.3%)
· PVC rose by $10 (1.2%)
· PET Bottle rose by $5 (0.5%)
· LLDPE (Butene) rose by $10 (0.9%)
Southeast Asia:
· PVC rose by $25 (3.3%)
· PET Bottle rose by $45 (3.9%)
· LLDPE (Butene) fell by $10 (-0.8%)
South Asia:
· PVC rose by $30 (3.5%)
Northwest Europe (FOB):
· ABS rose by $20 (1.2%)

Turkey (CFR):
· PVC rose by $20 (2.5%)
China; Price Increases Supported by Supply Disruptions
In China's market, polymer prices have been on an upward trend, supported by supply disruptions and rising oil prices. According to CommoPlast, an Indonesian producer raised its PE and PP prices three times in one week, with the total increase from Wednesday reaching IDR 710,000–890,000 per tonne for PE and IDR 350,000–360,000 per tonne for PP.
Additionally, BASF announced that a polyethylene production unit in Zhanjiang, China, was unexpectedly shut down. This shutdown comes as the Chinese market faces a wave of new capacities (including PetroChina Tarim II, Baofeng Energy IV, and Fujian Gulei II projects).
Europe; New Challenges
In Europe, France, Italy, and Germany are considering a plan to impose import quotas on chemical and plastic products (including PET, epoxy resins, and glass fibers). This move is in response to a sharp increase in imports and pressure on domestic European industries.
Additionally, German nylon producer Leuna-Polyamid has announced that without a new investor, it will cease production by the end of September 2026.
China; Chemical Exports Reshaping Trade
According to an S&P Global report at the APPEC 2026 conference, China's chemical exports are reshaping Asian trade flows. China, using its coal-to-chemicals technology advantage, is offering more competitive prices than other Asian regions and is filling the supply gap caused by the Middle East war.
🧠 Analysis: Record Value vs. Cautious Demand
Iran's polymer market presented a dual picture in the third week of September:
· On the one hand: The 7.2% surge in the free-market dollar and oil crossing $100 have fueled inflationary expectations and driven trade value to a record 19.2 trillion toman.
· On the other hand: The decline in demand volume suggests that real buyers are approaching the market more cautiously, and this record is more a result of fear of further price increases than genuine demand growth.
Globally, price increases in Asia (due to supply disruptions) are juxtaposed with new challenges in Europe (import quotas and plant closures). Additionally, China is emerging as a key supplier in Asia, and this structural shift could alter the long-term market outlook.
🎯 Outlook and Recommendations
The polymer market is in a state of "currency record, cautious demand." With the dollar's upward trend and continued geopolitical tensions, further base price increases are likely. However, the drop in demand on the commodity exchange signals a gradual cooling of the market.
Recommendation: Industry participants should closely monitor exchange rate developments and Strait of Hormuz developments. With the dollar's unprecedented rise, currency risk management and caution in bulk purchases are essential. Additionally, reviewing Analysis No. 13 is recommended for understanding the dollar's upward trend and record-breaking trade value.
